As it both begins and ends...

I’m currently on a train leaving Rome.  I miss it already.  It’s strange how suddenly my experience there came and went and while I am thrilled about the upcomming months, I can’t help but feel that I’ve left a piece of me in the Eternal City.  Alex is here after a very long journey and in the past few days we went to the Palatine, Forum, Colosseum, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Piazza del Popolo, Da Baffetto Pizza, the Frigidarium (three times), Il Fico, and the Vatican.  Whew!  It was like weeks of my time in Rome thrown in to one whirlwind weekend.  The first day I wore myself out and was in the sun way way too long so I spent almost all of yesterday in bed recovering from heat exhaustion while Alex explored on his own a bit.  Today I am feeling much better.

So as I said we are leaving Rome and headed to Cinque Terre, which is an area of five little towns on the coast connected by a long hiking trail.  I’m excited.  I’ve heard that it’s incredibly beautiful.  From there I will make my second appearance in Florence for two nights and then off to Perugia for a night before hopping on a 21 hour ferry ride to beautiful wonderful amazing Greece.  If my heart is in Rome, my soul is in Greece.  We are lucky enough to get to spend two entire weeks there and I really feel it will be the highlight of my vacation.

But for now…we are young let us lay in the sun and count every beautiful thing we can see…
